About Teens in TRANSition
This site was created in response to my own transition journey which began when I was still a minor. Navigating elements of transitioning to a transgender female was overwhelming, daunting, and exhilarating all at the same time. Throughout my transition I have realized many things, but the three that spurred me to create Teens in TRANSition are:
-
The support of my family has been crucial.
-
I am fortunate to live in a state where access to adolescent transgender medical care is protected by state law.
-
Even with a supportive family and access to appropriate medical treatment, figuring out where to begin and which providers to trust is a complicated and often confusing process.
The idea behind Teens in TRANSition is two-fold:
-
Encourage teens (and their allies) to advocate for their rights to receive appropriate medical care
-
Provide easy-to-find resources for teens in transition and those who support them to learn more and find community
If this site makes the transition process easier for even one teenager, I will consider it a success. Please share your own experiences and suggestions for additional resources that may help a fellow teen in transition.
